Make sowings of hardy & half-hardy annuals. Plant out half-hardy annuals when risk of frost has passed.
Prepare a planting plan & water borders before planting if dry.
Sow hardy biennials in drills in a nursery bed, or in pans or boxes in a greenhouse or cold frame.
Under glass
Move boxes of well grown half-hardy annuals to cold frames.
Spray fortnightly with a systemic insecticide.
Apply a liquid fertiliser to boxed plants if they start to turn yellow.
Sow hardy perennials in a frame or greenhouse. Prick out germinated seedlings.
Transfer greenhouse-raised plants to a frame to harden-off when they have 5 or 6 leaves.
