FLOWERS FROM SEED

Make sowings of hardy & half-hardy annuals. Plant out half-hardy annuals when risk of frost has passed. Prepare a planting plan & water borders before planting if dry. Sow hardy biennials in drills in a nursery bed, or in pans or boxes in a greenhouse or cold frame.
Under glass
Move boxes of well grown half-hardy annuals to cold frames. Spray fortnightly with a systemic insecticide. Apply a liquid fertiliser to boxed plants if they start to turn yellow. Sow hardy perennials in a frame or greenhouse. Prick out germinated seedlings. Transfer greenhouse-raised plants to a frame to harden-off when they have 5 or 6 leaves.
