LAWNS

New lawns
Plan cultivation and pre-seeding operations, and remedy defective drainage, where autumn sowing is intended. Thoroughly turn the site with a fork or cultivator and vigorously rake in several directions. Leave the ground rough during the summer.
Established lawns
Now, especially if the spring fertiliser dressing was given early, apply sulphate of ammonia at ½ oz. per sq. yd. bulked with sand, and water it in immediately after application. Watering is particularly important in dry weather.
Continue regular mowing, but first check the mower blades for sharpness and correct the setting if necessary. Height of cut should not be lower than ½ in.
